About DMS Guitar

The Duluth Middle School Guitar program originated as a general music class in 2008, becoming one of the first middle schools in Gwinnett County to offer a performing guitar ensemble. Year-long guitar ensembles were established in 2012. The success of these ensembles allowed the general music program to develop into full-time Fine Art classes in 2019. The increased rigor in the full-year classes requires students to register in 5th grade in order to participate.

In 2014, the DMS 8th grade Guitar Ensemble was featured on GCPS TV in the 2014 ArtStage Sounds of the Season program.

Continuing their mission to expand our presence in the community, the Duluth Guitar Ensemble performed at Eddie Owen's Red Clas Music Foundry, located in the heart of the Duluth community. Other performances within the community include the Southeastern Railway Museum and feeder elementary schools for their Candlelight Luncheons.

The DMS guitar program continues to grow thanks to the development of guitar programs in our elementary feeder schools as well as the on-going support of the faculty, staff, and administration at Duluth Middle School.

The DMS guitar program is an active part of the Duluth community. In a typical year, students will participate in events such as Giocoso, the Fall Festival Parade,  and the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference.

Some past field trips include performances at the High Museum in downtown Atlanta, the GMEA conference in Athens, as well as at the Red Clay theatre in our own city of Duluth!
